Chin Augmentation Plastic Surgery
Atlanta Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Practice Since 1980

To improve your facial profile by creating a more harmonious balance. Chin augmentation increases the projection of your chin which then creates a better balance between the chin and your other facial features.

BENEFITS OF CHIN IMPLANT SURGERY
(Chin Augmentation also called genioplasty or mentoplasty):

  • Chin implants strengthen the appearance of a receding chin
  • Chin implants strengthen the jawline
  • Chin implants bring the chin into balance with the rest of the face
  • Chin implants provide permanent, predictable results
  • Chin implants help to bolster self-esteem/self-acceptance

QUESTIONS OUR PATIENTS ASK ABOUT CHIN IMPLANT SURGERY:

Is Chin Augmentation (chin implant surgery) the right procedure for me? Chin augmentation (chin implant surgery) may be right for you if you have the following concerns and meet the requirements for this procedure.

  • You have a small chin and a large nose
  • You have a blunted or obtuse neck appearance
  • You have a flat-ended midface and cheekbone area below the eyes
  • You are in good physical and mental health
  • You are mature and have realistic expectations

What takes place during the consultation? Your personal consultation with the surgeon and our patient care coordinator is very important! During this time your physical health will be assessed, your concerns evaluated and your treatment plan customized. Please bring the following with you to the consultation:

  • Medical records – especially concerning previous surgical procedures
  • Past and present medical conditions information
  • Treatments you have previously received
  • List of all medications you are taking – including vitamins and herbals
  • Inform the plastic surgeon if you are a smoker

What to expect during the physical exam portion of your consultation:

  • Your facial and chin areas will be examined thoroughly
  • Your personal goals will be discussed in detail
  • Photographs may be taken for your medical records
  • Your procedure will be determined and customized for you
  • Chin Augmentation is frequently combined with other facial procedures
PREPARATION FOR YOUR CHIN AUGMENTATION/IMPLANT SURGERY:
  • If you are a smoker we strongly encourage you to refrain from smoking for at least 1 week prior to and 2 weeks after your surgery – or until your incisions have healed.
  • Please have someone drive you on the day of your surgery and plan to stay with you and help you for a day or two.
  • Take the Arnica (Homeopathic remedy) the surgeon will give you – according to his directions.
  • Avoid taking any medications, vitamins and herbals not prescribed by our doctors – especially ibuprofen.
  • Eat a nutrient rich diet to aid the body in recovery and healing.

Where will my Chin Implant surgery be performed? Chin augmentation – sometimes also referred to as “facial contouring” will be performed in our “State-of-the –Art” office accredited surgical suite on an out-patient basis unless your medical condition requires this be done in the hospital.

What anesthesia will I be given for my chin augmentation surgery? Patients are usually given local anesthesia combined with a sedative unless we determine general anesthesia would be better for you.

CHIN IMPLANT/AUGMENTATION SURGERY (GENIOPLASTY-MENTOPLASTY) OVERVIEW:

  • You will be cleaned and draped
  • A small incision will be made inside the mouth – to create a “pocket”
  • The implant is inserted into the pocket over the front of the jawbone
  • The chin is taped to minimize swelling and discomfort
  • Sutures are used to close the incision
  • Sutures are removed in 5-7 days unless dissolvable ones are used

What about returning to normal? There will be some swelling, bruising and discomfort for several days – but this goes away. You will have a little difficulty smiling and talking for several days. The doctor will instruct you on your oral hygiene, eating and restrictions. You may be placed on a liquid diet for 1-2 days and your chin will be bandaged or taped for a few days also. Avoid strenuous activities for about 10 days following your surgery – i.e. straining, bending and lifting.

Using the most innovative – cutting edge techniques and instruments – our patients experience wonderful results! We’re confident you will too and that you will enjoy your new “look” for many years to come
