QUESTIONS OUR PATIENTS ASK ABOUT LIPOSUCTION:
Is Liposuction right for me?
Liposuction could be right for you if you are dealing with the following conditions and meet these requirements:
- You are at a normal weight and have “firm –elastic” skin
- You are healthy both physically and emotionally
- You are able to set realistic goals and realistic expectations
- You have areas of fatty deposits that will not respond to diet and exercise
- Know that as we age…our skin loses elasticity…and results will vary
What causes these fatty deposits?
We develop them for different reasons – often our “genetic code” determines how we age. Poor lifestyle choices, lack of exercise over time and other factors cause these areas to load up with unwanted fat.
What takes place during the consultation?
This time spent with the plastic surgeon is very important! Your physical and emotional health will be assessed – your concerns evaluated and your goals and treatment plan will be customized. Please bring the following with you to the consultation:
- Medical records – especially concerning previous surgical procedures
- Past and present medical conditions information
- List of all medications you are taking – including vitamins and herbals
- History of experience with weight loss/gain and its affects on your body
What to expect during the physical exam portion of your consultation:
- Areas of concern will be examined
- Skin quality (elasticity etc) will be determined
- Photographs may be taken for your medical records
- Your procedure will be discussed in detail and customized to meet your goals
PREPARING FOR LIPOSUCTION /VGAL SURGERY:
- If you smoke, please stop smoking for 7 days before and 2 weeks after surgery
- Please use the homeopathic remedies from Dr. Lois as prescribed – Vitamin K is to be used before surgery – Arnica is to be used after surgery
- Avoid taking any medications, vitamins and herbals unless prescribed
- Avoid using any products containing Ibuprofen before and after surgery
*NOTE – It has been proven that smokers are at greater risk for bleeding, infections and longer healing time. Also, the homeopathic remedies we prescribe help to reduce the effects of bruising and swelling (Arnica), promote faster healing and reduce the risk of infection (Vitamin K).
LIPOSUCTION VGAL/PAL PROCEDURE OVERVIEW:
Vertical Gravity Assisted Liposuction procedure is unique and effective in achieving more precise results – and was created by Dr. Lois. Gravity plays a vital role in how we age – and in the outcome of liposuction procedures.
During traditional liposuction procedures the patient is required to lie on a table supine (flat on your back). Being in this position allows the fat to move, spread and assume different shapes more than when you are in an upright position. Dr. Lois’ VGAL technique involves a surgical table that is designed to elevate90 degrees. While in this upright position – he is able to see the natural effects of gravity on your fatty deposits –which enables him to “contour” your body with greater control and precision. PAL refers to a cannula that is power assisted and allows for a more aggressive removal of fat cells. The procedure involves the following:
- Saline-epinephrine solution is injected into areas to be treated
- Through tiny incisions – fat cells are suctioned out
- Incisions are closed with sutures
- Compression garments are applied to treated areas
What to expect after liposuction surgery:
- You will experience some swelling, numbness, bruising and fluid drainage –this all goes away a little each day over a few weeks time
- Discomfort at the incision sites and is controlled with oral pain medication
- A compression garment is used to control swelling – and is to be worn 24 hours a day for the first week – then during the day for 8 more weeks.
- Special post-operative massages are essential to enhance your results
What about getting back to normal after liposuction surgery? You should be up and about 1-2 days after your surgery – however – we want you to take it easy for at least 1 week. You will return to our office on the 2nd day following your surgery to have your compression garment changed – then you will be able to shower. You may be able to return to work in 7-10 days – but this needs to be discussed with the doctor. It will be necessary to avoid vigorous activities for about 2 weeks – but we do want you to walk around as soon as possible. This will increase circulation – reduce swelling and speed recovery. All the signs of surgery do fade over a few weeks and within a few months – you will be enjoying the final results.
We can all observe the effects of time – aging and gravity on our bodies as we stand in front of a mirror. It shows up on our hips, thighs, arms, legs, under the chin, in the abdomen and other areas. Using the most effective, safe, unique approach created by Dr. Lois – along with the most current, state-of-the-art instruments – our patients’ results are outstanding! Our goal is always to help you achieve your goal – using only the best, safest, most-innovative methods possible…we’re confident your results will be wonderful too. Vertical Gravity Assisted Liposuction allows for the best body contouring possible.
