QUESTIONS OUR PATIENTS ASK ABOUT PHENOL SKIN PEEL:

Is Phenol Skin peel right for me? Phenol deep chemical skin peels are reserved for problem facial areas only – such as the deep wrinkles around the lips and chin. They are also most effective in treating pre-cancerous skin growths and dealing with “botchy” sun-damaged skin. If you are experiencing any or all of these concerns – Phenol skin peel procedure may be right for you. You should have these concerns and meet the following requirements:

• You should be experiencing one or more of the concerns listed.
• You should be in good general health.
• You should not be experiencing any serious health problems.
• You must have realistic goals and expectations.

What takes place during the consultation? This time spent with your surgeon is most important! Your physical and emotional health will be assessed – your concerns evaluated and your treatment plan customized. Please bring the following with you to your consultation:

• Medical records – especially concerning past surgical procedures.
• Past and present medical conditions information.
• List of all medications you are taking – including vitamins and herbals.
• List of your present concerns and any history related to these

What to expect during the physical exam portion of your consultation:

• Your face and neck areas will be thoroughly examined.
• Skin type, condition and color will be evaluated. (Not recommended for dark-skinned individuals)
• Areas of concerned closely examined and evaluated.
• Your treatment program discussed and customized.

PREPARATION FOR PHENOL SKIN PEEL PROCEDURE:

• You should be in good health at the time of your peel appointment.
• If you are a smoker – we strongly encourage you to refrain for at least 1 week prior to and after your procedure until you are completely healed.
• Take all prescribed medications and use the skin applications he may give you also. It is important that you adhere to your surgeons instructions.
• You will need someone to drive you to your appointment and stay with you to help you for at least 24 hours – maybe longer.
• Do no drink or eat anything after midnight the night before your procedure.
• Shower/bathe as normal and wash your face with an antibacterial soap or as recommended by your surgeon.
• Wear a blouse that opens down the front to your procedure. 

*Note: It has been proven that smokers are at greater risk for bleeding, infections and longer/healing recovery time. It is important that you adhere to your surgeons instructions.

PHENOL CHEMICAL SKIN PEEL OVERVIEW:

• Your procedure will be done in our “state-of-the-art” surgical suite.
• You will be draped – and given a light sedative if needed.
• Your face will be thoroughly cleansed with an antiseptic solution.
• Your surgeon will carefully apply the Phenol solution – stinging is common – but there is no pain since the solution contains an anesthetic.
• Phenol peels around the lips usually take around 15 minutes.
• Your surgeon may apply a thick coating of ointment as a protective covering following your procedure.
• If a dressing or taping is required – it is removed in 1-2 days.

What to expect after the Phenol Skin Peel treatment:  

• “Extreme swelling”- tingling and throbbing – are common and will be controlled with oral pain medication – or a homeopathic remedy.
• A “protective crust” will develop over the treatment area within 1-2 days.
• Sensitivity and discomfort diminish a little each day – be sure to perform the at home care procedures as instructed.
• Your face will be very “red” at first – gradually fading into pink.
• New skin will begin to form within 7-10 days.
• The pinkish color gradually fades over several weeks – to a few months.
• You must avoid sun exposure until your surgeon says it’s okay.
• Use a sun block to prevent blotchy, irregular skin coloring.

What about getting back to normal after Phenol Skin peel? Phenol chemical skin peel is the “deepest” peel available. The results are “dramatic” and worth the effort put into this procedure – however – it is an invasive procedure and healing will take time. The improvements will show up gradually as you notice fewer fine wrinkles, fewer blemishes and more even-toned skin. Your results will be long lasting – up to 30 years depending on your age. Returning to work and normal activities will be determined by you and your surgeon. It varies with each patient.
