BOTOX...A Lunch time Treatment for Wrinkles in Motion
Smiling, squinting and frowning, for example, create wrinkles that only appear when the muscles that cause them are in use. These lines and wrinkles appear between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crow’s feet) as we age – with repeated frowning or smiling and as skin loses its elasticity – over time. Botox Cosmetic treatment does not fill in as do cosmetic fillers that restore lost volume, but rather Botox acts as an intramuscular blocking agent. It blocks the chemicals that cause facial muscles to contract and relaxes them. How Does Botox Work?
Botox is injected in very small doses into the muscles that cause the severe frown lines. Botox is a highly purified muscle relaxant that, after injection, causes wrinkles to “smooth away.” The untreated areas are not affected at all. A tiny micro-needle is used to inject the pre-measured dose into the targeted area(s). Discomfort is minimal.

What causes wrinkles and deep lines? - Years of “facial expressions.” The repeated use of the facial muscles over years and years cause what we call “dynamic wrinkles.” The grooves appear as the result of repeated muscle contractions from smiling, frowning, laughing, squinting, crying and all these habitual emotional expressions we all use daily. Genetics, family history, lifestyle habits such as smoking and sun bathing along with normal age related wear and tear all contribute to these “dynamic” wrinkles and creases.
What is Botox? Is the Brand name for Botulinum Toxin Type A which is nature’s most potent nerve impulse blocker. It is a therapeutic neurotoxin used successfully and safely in wrinkle therapy for several years now.
How does Botox work? It works by “relaxing” the muscles used repeatedly, day after day for facial expressions. The botulinim partially blocks the nerve found in these muscles. This relaxing of the muscles causes the overlying skin to “smooth out” and the wrinkles go away! This does not affect normal functioning of untreated muscles.
What is a Botox treatment like? Safe – simple and fast! Using a tiny needle the Botox is injected with great precision into the specified facial area. There is minimal discomfort – no sedation or anesthetic is needed. You can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Treatment effects are noticed within 24-72 hours following the injection.
What are the side effects? Temporary bruising at the injection site is common. If the injection migrates to the wrong muscle – there may be some slight side effects such as “eye drooping” temporarily. With our skill and expertise is use of Botox – there is less than 1% chance of migration. Any side effects are temporary.

How long do the results from Botox treatment last? Typically they last from 3-6 months. This varies of course by individual. The injections can be repeated periodically and studies have shown that this causes the duration of the results to increase over time – that means you could require injections less frequently in the future!
Botox canot improve wrinkles that are not related to muscle contractions – conditions such as aging, and sun-damaged skin or normal “sagging skin.” Nor will it take the place of a much needed facelift….but Botox can deliver a more youthful appearance in as little as 3 -10 days bysmoothing out “dynamic wrinkles.” If your goal is to look a little younger quickly …Botox may be right for you!
